Newlands Spring Primary and Nursery School

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Newlands Spring, our approach to SEND is underpinned by our motto "working together towards success for all".  Our school believes that all students should be able to make the best possible progress at school and we are committed to ensuring that the necessary provision is made for any pupil who has SEND. We support pupils with SEND to be included in all aspects of school life.

“All teachers are teachers of pupils with special educational needs. Teaching such children is therefore a whole school responsibility, requiring a whole school response.” (SEND Code of practice 2001)

Our SEND Coordinator is Mrs Anchor and our Assistant SENDCo is Mrs Gowers

Our Pupil Pupil Support manager is Mrs Ormrod.

Together they work tirelessly to support children with additional needs and forge strong relationships with their families.

Our capable teachers and Learning Support Assistants meet children's needs in class through individual or small-group focused activities. We work closely with parents and other agencies such as Speech and Language Therapy Services and Educational Psychologists and we attend regular, relevant training.

Children with identified needs are placed on the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) register, and benefit from the Essex approach of "One Planning" focused on child-centred reviews and individual provision mapping.

Children are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and outcomes, and are encouraged to develop a high level of self-esteem, confidence and motivation for learning.

Please see our SEND Policy and  SEND Information Report  for further information.
